For those students who ride with parents, we ask that they arrive at school between 8:40 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. First grade and Kindergarten AM may not be dropped off at school before 8:40 a.m. Kindergarten PM students may not be dropped off at school before 12:20 p.m. If you transport your child to school, please use the drop off/pickup site. The front of the school is for buses only. Parents are requested to bring their child to the office and sign in if they arrive after 8:50 a. m or after 12:30 p.m. for Kindergarten pm students. At dismissal, parents should park in the drop off/pickup site and come to the office to pick up their children. No parking is allowed in the bus lane, which is in the front of the school.
Child’s Bus Stop
You and your child should report to the bus stop ten minutes before the designated pickup time. It is your responsibility as a parent to be at the bus stop before/after school. Please discuss alternate plans with your child in the event you would not be at the bus stop to receive him/her at the end of the school day or in the event of an early dismissal.
Release of Students
If you plan to pick up your child during the school day or at dismissal, please send a note to your child's teacher. All students will be picked up at the office. We encourage you to try to schedule your child's doctor and dental appointments around school hours. If this is not possible, you must come to the main office to sign out your child. For your child's safety the teacher will not release a child to anyone who has not sent written communication to the school. Proof of identification may be requested.
All children are expected to be in attendance each day unless they are ill. Homework can be arranged to be picked up or sent home. A note is required for all absences. This should be sent to your child's teacher upon return to school.
Please notify the school in writing of any changes in address, phone number, names, emergency numbers, etc. It is important to keep this information current. It is used if your child becomes ill at school, or if a teacher attempts to contact parents. Proof of new residence is required if moving within the Whitehall-Coplay School District.
If a change in busing is necessary, please contact the Director of Transportation at 610.437.4780 at least three days in advance. When sending a note to the teacher/office to inform us of a bus change, please remember to include the bus number and bus stop changes and the date it will be effective.
A parent/guardian should give medication before or after school hours if at all possible. If a child must receive medicaton during school the medicine must be sent in the original container.
A Medication Dispensing Form
must be completed and signed by a physician and parent and returned to the school nurse. Both prescription and over the counter medications must have a physician's order to be given during the school day. No medication will be administered in school without a completed Medication Dispensing Form
. All medications must be delivered by a parent/guardian or adult designee.
Computerized Lunch System
Full day students will be assigned a pin number for the computerized lunch program. Parents may deposit money into their child’s account biweekly, quarterly, or monthly. Please visit www.myschoolbucks.com to add money or view your child's cafeteria account. Personal checks can also be mailed directly to the Gockley cafeteria or given to your child’s teacher any morning. Checks must be submitted at least three school days in advance to be credited to their account.
Labeling Personal Items & Money
Please put your child's name on all items such as backpacks, lunch boxes, jackets, folders, etc. to easily identify lost items. Any money brought to school should be placed in an envelope with your child's name and teacher's name.
A Whitehall-Coplay School District calendar is given to each student in September or upon registration during the school year as a handy reminder of holidays, early dismissals, in-service days, etc. A monthly Principal's newsletter is given to students each month to bring home. Parents are strongly encouraged to read it. There is information about monthly events and important dates to remember.
Withdrawal of Students
Please notify the school office at least a week in advance of moving from the school district. Transfer papers will be prepared by the school secretary for the transition.
Please do not email absences or pick-up notes to teachers. In the event of their absence or other unforeseen event, this may not be received until a later day and cause inconvenience for your child. Always send these notes with your child in the morning.
Educational trips are limited to 7 school days. Any days missed for travel beyond the 7 days absence will be illegal days if the student’s age is 16 or younger. Trips are discouraged during the school year. If your child will be absent due to travel arrangements, a Trip Request Form must be submitted prior to the Principal at least 10 days prior to departure. If the form is not submitted prior to the trip, the days will be considered illegal. Please make arrangements for missed assignments with your child’s teacher.
