State Assessments
In the state of Pennsylvania, there are two assessments used by ESL specialists to identify and monitor English learners' growth.
The WIDA Screener is the Pennsylvania identification and placement tool.
The WIDA ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 is administered yearly to all English Learners to monitor their progress in acquiring academic English. The assessment is generally given in January and February. The test assesses the four language domains of Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. Individual Student Reports from this assessment are sent home generally in June or July.
