Exiting Criteria
Once an English learner (EL) has been identified and placed in an ELD program, a parent or guardian has the right to refuse English language services. Click here for more information on how to opt-out. A parent can also return their student back into the ESL program at any point. Please communicate with your child's ESL teacher if you wish to have your child opted in or opted out of the ESL program.
For an English Learner (EL) to be considered for exiting the ESL program, they must score a minimum of 4.5 on the annual WIDA ACCESS 2.0 test. In addition, two language inventory forms are completed and reviewed as a part of the reclassification decision making process. Evidence of language proficiency is gathered and reviewed to determine if a student meets the minimum score requirement for reclassification. If a student is reclassified, the ESL teacher is responsible for monitoring that student's progress for two years to ensure that language is not impeding their ability to participate on grade level. Reach out to your child's ESL teacher for more information on the reclassification process.
