We are the Zephyrs!!! So, what is the origin of our school name?
The Class of 1937 held a contest to come up with a school name. The prize for the
winning entry was $5.00 (a lot of money back then!). David Steckel submitted the winning name of “The Zephyrs”. He told the following story at his 60th class reunion to
our Superintendent:
“There was big and powerful locomotive that used to come into the old Hokey Station
called a Zephyr and there was also an old Lincoln Zephyr passenger car back
then." Both of them represented power and he thought it would be a great name for the spirit of Whitehall. Others agreed, he walked away with $5.00 and the name lives on today! |
